Nintendo Wii not multiregion?

I finally got my hands on a Nintendo Wii but was disappointed to realised they are not a multi-region format. Nintendo have done a great job of sorting out an international success. Shame it didn't include international freedom.

Also the 110v adaptor if you buy from Canada and USA is not useful for those of us that live in the UK. You can get a 110-240 adaptor from Amazon UK easily for 7-8 pounds but why couldnt Nintendo sort that out also.
