I got my Mr Wong email update this morning. Not normally something I read but today I thought I would throw caution to the wind and click on the enticing subject line, diving in to expose me to all sorts of Wongness.
Today I did discover something new and remotely interesting. A new Beta service called PixelPipe which announces it can post your content to nearly any network or blog online. What caught my eye initially was that they tout alot of networks, including such big hitters as Facebook, Flickr and my personal favourite, Drupal.
The concept is simple. Post once and have your content syndicated across any other network you choose. For viral marketing activities this can be a real time saver if you need a quick hit. For long term SEO strategies this may not be a smart decision. I am yet to see how the content appears on other networks and how this will be seen by Search Engines. Duplicate content? Quite possibly and not something I would bother toying with.
This is another angle on the 'only want one social network'. They are reverse engineering peoples desire to pull all their activites into one place. Rather than have an OpenID or single sign on with Google Friends etc you just post once and hit all the networks meaning you are still everywhere at once.
I am guessing it uses a basic Blog API to connect to so you would need to add a username, password and API URL to connect to each service. For most networks you can add photos and text but no video yet.
Without me spending my precious coffee time this morning trying a new service I will leave that to the adventurous viral types out there. I have signed up and poked around, looks good. Would love to hear from anyone who has tried it but I am guessing it's a growing concept.
