So Sony are trying also. But if they hope to have any impact I am guessing they are going to need to improve the look of the website and the garbage stock images they use. They should take a note out of Skype's book for how to look attractive.
Anyway - they have launched a new VOIP service incorporating video which is free. Cant see it holds alot over Skype or MSN and others but Sony always have a place in my heart. Despite the fact I am an Apple fan.
They do boast that it offer 000 video call facilites in the USA which I find most amusing. But it does raise the thoughts of have Doctors appointments or similar from the comfort of your own living room...
Offering a free service and a connection offering for calling traditional PSTN phone setups - this is bound to make all the Sony computer owners sign up knowing, like Apple users, that Sony support their own. You are able to call Mobiles, Home phones and video calls.
IVE = Instant Video Anywhere.
From a marketing perspective they are pitching it to the late working Executive who can say good night to his family whislt being bound to the office. I believe this tactic was abandoned a while ago and the newer campaigns from Orange and Vodafone show us it is time to learn to go home early and love our families (your hug here). They are also pitching to women wanting to make sure their husbands are working late.....and to online Gaming companies like Poker firms so you can see the person you are playing.
Lets see what is to come from the Beta 2.0 Skype release and the Google murmurings.
