Mobile Me and Gmail...can they play together?

Recently read this article on mobile me and gmail. I have to say it is one of the best articles I have read about the negatives of Mobile Me. If you consider them negatives. As a long time gmail user I am reluctant to begin splitting my email experience. gmail offers all the sharing protocols you could possible need - forwarding, imap and Pop. Mobile Me however offer nothing in regards to opening the gates to allow people from other systems to tie in.

Basically apple with mobile me need to open up their online resources to behave more like mail.app - in that you can reply to emails from another source.

Anyway read the Boing Boing article which is more articulate than this.
