Designing emails using CSS or Tables? Here's a ray of light...

If you have ever been involved in designing a marketing email or designing an email template you will be familiar with the problems of designing with CSS. gmail and other clients always strip out the CSS style and you are left with a rather half baked design.

We all know the world has gone CSS. So why are emails still only functional in Tables? I don't know but here is a most helpful link to campaign monitor which outlines who supports what. This is brilliant.
