I can't pretend not to know Kris Morris or his music. Having played with him at various venues over the years including kitchens, offices and other similar high profile music venues. However, having not input a great deal on the latest album I think it fair I have the opportunity to give my thoughts on his latest album 'I think we both know' (available on itunes, emusic, amazon and www.krismorris.com).
There are a few things that stand out about 'I think we both know'. First is the laid back musical approach. There is no hogging the microphone here, filling the gaps with surplus musical noise, no egomania and no awkward moments. Instead it is relaxed, tuneful and confident. You feel like you can trust the album, and more importantly it's maker.
The songs are varied and interesting. You don't feel like you are listening to the same song sung in 8 different formats. Each is creative, fresh and inspiring. His voice is strong, his guitar playing gifted and his song writing sublime. He has played in numerous London venues and festivals further consolidating his ability to 'bring it'. Most importantly you feel Morris brings a message, a vibe full of positivity. A feel good journey with food for thought.
This album grows on you so get it going around a few times. It listens well once but every time you listen to it you find another layer.
Expect to hear a lot of Kris Morris on radio stations this year.
It is available this week as a free download from http://www.krismorris.com
